First month! - and Wales...

Well now…

Our Blog is one month old, my, thats gone really fast.  Thank you for the nearly 3,000 views  UK in the lead, followed by Slovakia, then the USA, then the rest of Europe… then the rest of the world.

Most read Posts

The Homeless Reduction Bill proved a very popular Post, we hope that this translates into the 100 MPs that Bob Blackman MP needs to steer this through its second reading.

Our Post on domestic violence is the most read, an emotional subject, and one we feel is often swept under the carpet.  There is almost a guilt about admitting that you have been abused, about admitting that you need help.  There are some contacts in that blog who are there to offer support.

And Wales...

As today is Thursday, we go on to introduce another of our Partners, this time from Wales.  Step forward LLamau!

We leave their Jenna Lewis to describe what goes on...

At Llamau, we believe that no young person or vulnerable woman should ever have to experience homelessness. But for thousands of the most vulnerable people in Wales, homelessness is a frightening reality.

Every year over 80,000 under-25s in the UK experience homelessness.
One in four women will be affected by domestic abuse in their lifetimes, leaving them at serious risk of homelessness.

30 years ago, Llamau was founded to provide homeless teenagers in the Vale of Glamorgan with a safe place to stay. Since then, we have supported thousands of young people and vulnerable women who are either facing homelessness or are already homeless.
Many people think that the job of a homelessness charity will be to provide accommodation; a safe place to stay. But it is very clear to us that for most people who are facing homelessness, their problems are far more complex than a lack of permanent shelter.
That’s why we treat everyone who needs our support as an individual. We recognise their unique strengths and needs, and make sure that they are supported to leave homelessness behind for good.
We believe that every young person and vulnerable woman should be given the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

When so much media coverage invites us to blame and give up on the poorest and most vulnerable in our society, Llamau continues to recognise each person’s strengths, and supports them to leave homelessness behind now and - we hope - forever.
In 2015-16 we supported 8,144 young people, women and their families who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Llamau are one of our Partners for the Winter B1G1 - Buy one Gift one - campaign, which runs from 10th October to just after Christmas.  Items for sale then supply warm Beanies and scarves, together with duffle bags through our Partners to the street homeless.

The streets can be very lonely.
